MCDONALD’S OWNERS ASSOCIATION DONATES TO NASSAU LINKS SAFE HOUSE
Nassau (Bahamas) –
October, 2006. The National Black McDonald’s Owners Association (NBMOA),
and two of their operators who are also, members of The Links,
Incorporated, donated a total of $7,000 to The Links Safe House
for Women in Crises located in Nassau, Bahamas. The
presentation was made during a recent luncheon that was hosted by the
McDonald’s Corporation at a business symposium held at the Atlantis
Hotel on Paradise Island, Bahamas.
A donation of $500 was
also presented on behalf of The Links, Inc., Montgomery County Chapter,
Pennsylvania. Donations of 108 cases of soda and cakes were also given
to the Safe House by The Coca-Cola Company, one of the symposium
sponsors.
The Million-Dollar
Links Safe House for Women in Crises was opened on
October 17, 2003 in Nassau, Bahamas, through the sustained efforts,
determination and loving care of twenty six members of the Nassau
Chapter of The Links, Inc. The land was donated by the Bahamas
Government through The Ministry of Social Services and Community
Development. The facility was built from donations given by numerous
corporate sponsors and fund raising activities put on by the The Nassau
Chapter of The Links, Incorporated with the support of the community.
The Safe House
provides a home for women in crisis, with or without children, who need
temporary shelter for up to three months. It also provides a home, for
up to two years, for teenagers who must leave child care institutions
and have no place to go. The Safe House has fourteen beds
for long-term residents and can provide accommodations for mothers with
up to four children.
