 FEDEX GRANT: NATIONAL MENTORING INITIATIVE

The FedEx Corporation has been an outstanding supporter of our mentoring programs through the years and we are delighted to announce that they have awarded us $20,000 again this year. Because of FedEx’s generosity, we will continue to be powerful advocates for stronger mentoring relationships while closing the academic achievement gap. We are especially thankful to Rose Flenorl, River City (TN) Chapter and Manager of Social Responsibility at FedEx, who was instrumental in securing this grant.

The FedEx grant supports our goal of touching the lives of as many youth as possible and guiding them to promising futures. Each Area has been allocated $5,000 to award to chapters with established best practice programs or programs demonstrating great promise; thus allowing chapters to expand their programs’ reach and impact. FedEx Mentoring Awards were presented to three outstanding chapters at the Eastern Area Conference. Congratulations to the Rochester (NY), Commonwealth (VA) and Greater New York (NY) Chapters! We eagerly await the announcement of the Central and Western Area FedEx Mentoring Award winners. Winners from the Southern Area will be announced at a later date.

Like us, FedEx stands for the kind of deep community commitment and corporate involvement that is so necessary today. We applaud all that they do!

2011- 2012 NATIONAL POSTER ART COMPETITION

2011- 2012 NATIONAL POSTER ART COMPETITIONWe are pleased to announce that 2011-2012 National Poster Art Competition guidelines are available! Plan now to integrate this creative, educational opportunity into your new program year. Our goal is to have all 274 chapters submit at least one poster entry into the competition.

The 2011-2012 competition theme, “Healthy, Active and Wise”, serves to broaden our health message by aligning with our Health and Human Services facet and emphasizing a wider spectrum of healthy lifestyle choices. This will allow for a more meaningful, educational experience for participants and bring about an array of ideas to inspire their poster designs. Chapters should arrange for students to experience a variety of activities that support healthy living, and encourage them to share what they have learned to their family and friends. By promoting a “Healthy, Active and Wise” lifestyle we can educate students about the valuable benefits of good nutrition and exercise while affording them the opportunity to exhibit their creativity.

Remember...it only takes one entry to win the Area or National Scholarship! Why wait until October, complete your “Notification of Chapter Participation Form” today. You can find the 2011-2012 National Poster Art Competition guidelines, including the “Notification of Chapter Participation Form”, in the Members Only section of the website.
