THE LINKS, INCORPORATED PROVIDES RELIEF SUPPORT FOR HAITI
Organization Donates $50,000 to Habitat for Humanity Efforts
[Washington D.C.] [August 25, 2011] – Today, The Links, Incorporated, one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations, donated $50,000 to help Habitat for Humanity’s ongoing relief efforts in Haiti.
“There still remains much work to be done to help Haiti recover from the devastation caused by the massive earthquake that struck near Port-au-Prince nearly 18 months ago. We are proud to stand with our partner, Habitat for Humanity, to help ensure that the struggles of the Haitian people remains in the public consciousness and homes are built to help provide shelter for those still in need” stated Margot James Copeland, National President of The Links, Incorporated.
Habitat for Humanity has worked with Haiti for over 26 years and continues to serve the people there in rebuilding their lives through the construction of homes and other key infrastructure projects.
“With so much still to be done in Haiti, it is partners such as The Links, Incorporated that will help to ensure the long term recovery of the people of Haiti from this most tragic natural disaster, “stated Elizabeth Blake, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Advocacy and General Counsel for Habitat for Humanity.
Dedicated to public service, the members of The Links, Incorporated contribute more than 500,000 documented hours of community service within their respective communities annually. In addition, since its founding, The Links Foundation, Incorporated has contributed more than $24 million dollars to charitable causes.
Link Frances Atkinson composed the lyrics of the National Song of The Links, Incorporated that reminds all members that “we are each a Link in friendship’s chain” and that once we remain “loyal to our creed / of doing good through work and play / together we’ll succeed”
Founded in 1946, The Links, Incorporated is an international, women's non-profit, social welfare and service organization of over 12,000 members in 274 chapters across the United States, and the Bahamas. From its inception, the organization's members have been developing and implementing programs that target issues affecting its members and communities. Community service has been the corner stone of the organization's outreach with members contributing more than two million documented hours of community service over the past three years. For the past 65 years, The Links, Incorporated has been internationally known for its programs that are focused on topics such as health, education, youth, and public policy.
